The Lawndale Elementary School District located in the heart of the South Bay in Lawndale California, consists of eight school sites, providing a public school education to approximately 6,150 students. Six elementary schools provide kindergarten through sixth grade classes, one provides kindergarten through third grade classes, and another provides fourth through sixth grade classes. Unification merged the former Redondo Beach City School District with the South Bay Union High School District, (the former district had served the community for more than 100 years) bringing to the students of the city a comprehensive educational program rich in tradition, covering preschool through 12th grade and beyond.

The El Segundo Unified School District, with a current enrollment of approximately 3,500 students, serves students at five school sites: Center Street Elementary School (K-5); Richmond Street Elementary School (K-5); El Segundo Middle School (6-8); El Segundo High School (9-12); and Arena Continuation High School. The District has a preschool program, in addition to a fee-based before and after school child care program, The Learning Connection (TLC), that is on both elementary school campuses to serve K-5 students enrolled in the District.
In 2005, the El Segundo Unified School District was recognized as an “academic out-performer,” one of only 29 California school districts to earn this distinction from Standard & Poor's, the prestigious credit and financial services company. Out of more than 1000 school districts in California, Standard & Poor's School Evaluation Services division considered academic out-performer candidacy for the 351 k-12 districts that had sufficient data for the analysis. To qualify for the distinction, school districts had to report significantly higher percentages of students who scored proficient or above on state reading and math tests over two school years, in comparison to other school districts with similar demographics.
Class sizes of twenty students or less are available in Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3 at the elementary level, and in grade 9 math, and 9th & 10th grade English classes.
District staff consists of eleven administrative employees, 151 certificated and 110 classified employees, with over 50 being considered full-time.
The ethnic composition of the student body is: African American 4.4%; Asian 7.4%; Caucasian 69%; Hispanic 16.4%; Pacific Islander 1.1%; Filipino 1.5%.
